Ideation & Research

IDEA : An Interactive physical experience of an orchestra using sex toys. Each of the sex toys would be an instrument with a tracker having a distinct and funny sound and the player would be able to create music.

We started by looking at projection mapping and physical interactivity as the essential experiences for this project. We wanted the user to get comfortable with the topic of Sex Toys and create a playful and enjoyable experience by creating an orchestra of sex toys with projection. The player would be able to physically interact with the toys to give out playful music as feedback with animations.

Environment

FUN / WHIMSICAL

We tried to come up with two different concept themes for the level design, trying to understand the feeling/ emotion of the user. It had to be comical as well as not be taken as a joke. The idea of the main stage was to be modelled with the user standing on the tongue and the sound coming out of the mouth.

RETRO / SENSUAL

Inspired by Verner Panton, the theme revolved around sensual furniture representing a red room. Combing the two themes we decided to use the lightboxes as our main inspiration for the level design.

AI for Scene & Color Inspiration

I used Midjourney to generate a range of themes for what an ideal sex toy orchestra could look like. Some interesting results were produced which served as a good starting point for structures and lighting.

Modeling

I started by modeling the scene with furniture to create an ambient environment, where the user can interact with the surroundings such as sitting and interacting with sex toys on the wall. However, since the main interaction of the experience is the orchestra, we brainstormed around a 360-degree showpiece that would mimic what the user sees in front of them. I modeled simple domes to place the sex toys and used the lighting to create shadows and light to guide the user for attention.
